ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa yesterday said he was confident that
the ruling party would achieve a decisive victory in next year's general
elections.

Ramaphosa spoke to The New Age while leading the national working committee
(NWC) of the ruling party in Tlokwe in the North West as part of the
organisation's preparations for the upcoming by-elections in the area. He
described the NWC's election campaign in Tlokwe as a problem-free exercise,
saying the response from the masses was overwhelming.

"Everything is going well and we are working hard. The response is good as
people are happy to see us," Ramaphosa said.

"Yes, we have no doubt that the ANC will win the (2014) elections
decisively. This will be made possible by the combination of efforts and our
messages to the people."

Ramaphosa was elected to the top six leadership of the ANC at its 53rd
election conference of the movement held in Mangaung, in the Free State,
last year.

ANC spokesperson Jackson Mthembu said the NWC would sit for its regular
meeting in Tlokwe and resume its door-to-door campaign, which started on
Sunday. He said the party delegation would visit all the nine wards to be
contested which are in Ikageng township.

"This visit forms part of our programme of reporting to the people on the
work that has been done in the current term of government as well as
preparations for the upcoming by-elections," Mthembu said.

The by-elections are scheduled to take place on September 18.

North West provincial spokesperson for the ANC Kenny Morolong said the visit
of the national leadership of the organisation to the province was part of
its on-going election work. He said the ANC would do anything in its power
to sweep votes in the by-elections.

"The visit is part of our broader election work. We will contest the
by-elections and we are confident of winning," Morolong said.

Tlokwe has become a battleground over voter support between the ANC and the
DA over the past several months. The ANC had emerged victorious in the
recent by-elections.
