*YCLSA Mbuyiselo Ngwenda District Press Statement* * *
September 10, 2013 * * *YCLSA Mbuyiselo Ngwenda District DEC Statement* The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] in Mbuyiselo Ngwenda District [Eastern Cape] convened the 2nd Plenary Session of its 3rdDistrict Congress on the 08 September 2013 at the SANCO Offices in KwaLanga. The 2nd Plenary Session was convened with the purpose of engaging on organizational and political issues that affect both our members and the working class peoples of our district, provincially, nationally and beyond the seas of South Africa. It was also convened to report back on the Provincial Committee meeting held last month and to discuss and prepare for the SRC Elections at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU). The 2nd Plenary Session further reaffirmed and re-committed itself to the 3 rd Congress Theme: *“Young communist to the front to crush capitalism.”* We recommitted ourselves as this collective because our duty remains that of making sure we are at the forefront of the struggles of young people and those who come from working class background in particular. *STATE OF NELSON MANDELA BAY MUNICIPALITY* The District Committee engaged around the state of the municipality particularly as it relates to the ongoing “strike” actions by workers. Our understanding as the Committee is that workers will never embark on actions if there are no serious issues that they believe should be addressed by their employer, we also believe that some of the issues raised by the workers are as a result of apartheid wage scales that alienated black people in general and Africans in particular. We want to state it without any fear of contradiction that we are against the holding hostage of anyone in order to address issues. We therefore call upon the leadership of the municipality to find ways to address the issues raised by the workers because the more they are allowed to pro-long the leadership might validate counter revolutionary arguments propagated by reactionary individuals and organizations that black people cannot govern. We are further perturbed and disturbed by the rumors circulating that the municipality is attempting to give Dr. Lindiwe Ndlela a golden handshake of more than R3 million after having spent less than six months in her position. We therefore support the call made by the Party that the Provincial Government intervenes to save this metro from any further political and financial instability as we believe that the money that is rumored to be the golden handshake offered to Dr. Lindiwe Ndlela could be used towards providing services to the poor people within our city. *INDUSTRIAL ACTIONS BY WORKERS* The District Committee noted and engaged around the continued industrial actions of workers in the motor industry and petrol attendants, we then resolved to call for unity amongst these workers such that the employer does not pick signs of division amongst them and probably use scab workers. We further re-iterate our point made above that workers will never embark on an industrial action if their demands are not genuine particularly given the high increase in fuel, electricity and transport. We therefore call upon the workers to soldier on until their demands are met and call upon the Capitalists bosses to sit down with workers and find ways on how they can meet their demands particularly given that it is the very same workers who have allowed some of these Capitalists bosses to take holiday trips and stay in affluent places like Summerstrand, Lorraine etc. ***SRC ELECTIONS: NMMU* The District Committee has deliberated about the incoming elections of the Student Representative Council (SRC) at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU). We want to say this in the first instance without fear; we are going to work our fingers to the bone in making sure that the revolutionary student movement, South African Student Congress (SASCO) comes out victorious in those elections. We are saying that SASCO is the only organization capable of fighting for the needs of students coming from working-class background who constitute the majority of those who are currently being financially and academically excluded at NMMU. The District Committee however also calls upon cadres of SASCO particularly those who will come in as leaders of students to only concentrate on ensuring that the needs and aspirations of students become their focal points and NOTHING ELSE. This we are pleading as we have observed that in most institutions when people are elected into positions of leadership in the representative councils they tend to create a social distance between themselves and the constituency they are leading. The District Committee also calls upon former leaders and activists of SASCO in the immediate vicinity to come in numbers so that we can all mobilize for the overwhelming victory of SASCO. We also call upon the Tripartite Alliance in particular the Peoples’ Movement (ANC) to offer SASCO every form of support they request as these elections might be a bench mark on what young people particularly prospective academics and professionals think of organizations aligned to the African National Congress particularly as we are going towards the 2014 General Elections next year.
