*YCLSA Gauteng Press Statement* **September 18, 2013
*YCLSA statement on the appointment of Dr. Hugh Gosnell as HOD for Health Department* The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] in the province of Gauteng welcomes to office a seasoned health enthusiast, Dr. Hugh David Gosnell who commands an immense knowledge of the health fraternity, both locally and abroad. Dr. Gosnell has been appointed Gauteng Head of Department for health with effect from 2 September 2013. Dr. Gosnell completed his MBBCh with the University of the Witwatersrand in 1985 and executive MBA with the University of Cape Town in 2003. Among the various roles he has played Dr. Gosnell previously served as a coordinator in a number of community based health projects in the country to ultimately being appointed the National Health Coordinator of National Progressive Primary Health Care Network (NPPHCN). The appointment of Dr. Gosnell is to us in line with meritocratic principles as championed by the national department of health with regards to appointments in the health sector. As the YCLSA we wish Dr. Gosnell well in the gigantic task that he faces ahead. The health department in Gauteng has among others been used to enrich certain elements from elitist groupings and tenderpreneurs that have accumulated millions in rand value terms and assets from embedded tenders or possible collusion if not corruption while the public health care system was placed on the path of shambles. Investigations were conducted into the Gauteng health department but no report was released to the public to read word by word and hold those responsible accountable. This has since given rise to widespread suspicions that concealing the report to the public is an act of corruption aimed and is aimed at protecting corrupt elements for reasons known to, or to the benefit of, elitist groupings and tenderpreneurs. The YCLSA reiterates its call for all the reports from investigations conducted by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) in Gauteng to be released to the public with immediate effect without any tempering and alteration.
