*CWU ON THE NEW RECOMMENDED SABC BOARD MEMBERS* * *
*18 September 2013* The Communication Workers Union (CWU) notes and welcomes the newly recommended non-executive members of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Board by the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Communications. We are of the view that this is a strong team of highly experienced men and women, young and old who will build a strong Public Broadcaster. We hope that this new board will bring peace and stability at the SABC. CWU will never let down the SABC. In the recent past we saw the SABC receiving a disclaimer by the Auditor General. The head of Internal Audit should hold her head in shame for bringing the SABC into disrepute because if she had done her job properly as an Internal Auditor all the cases of non-compliances would have been picked up and reported to the Audit Committee who in turn would have reported to the SABC board to take appropriate action. At one stage the previous SABC board led by Dr Ben Ngubane suspended the head of Internal Audit because of her failure to give an appropriate report to the Audit Committee and the previous board, unfortunately the SABC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) reinstated her.
