NUM to march to Vametco Evraz

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) will tomorrow march to Vametco Evraz
mine outside Brits in the North West province in pursuit of wage demands.
The march will tomorrow be supported by the South African National Civics
Organisation (SANCO) and Community Organisations.

Members of the NUM have been on strike for a period of five weeks and the
company refuses to budge on wage increases. The NUM has put forward a demand
of R11 000 minimum wage a month and the company is offering 6,25%. On the
living out allowance, the union's demand is R2000 whilst the company offers
6%. The NUM rejects all the company's offers with the contempt they deserve.

Vametco Evraz is based in Brits and is the only company that produces both
Vanadium Nitroven and Fero Vanadium in the world.

"We object wholeheartedly to the errant behaviour of Vametco Evraz
management and will do anything in our power to ensure its closure if it
refuses to accede to our demands" says Sydwell Dokolwana, the NUM's Regional
Secretary in Rustenburg.
