NUMSA denies COSATU House march talks Qaannitah Hunter, The New Age, Johannesburg, 5 February 2014 The National Union of Metalworkers of SA (NUMSA) has denied that there are plans for the union and eight of its allies in COSATU to march to the trade union federation's headquarters. This is despite evidence in the hands of The New Age that there were talks in that regard. NUMSA general secretary Irvin Jim said no decision had been taken. "People can talk but it is all talk," he said. The New Age reported on Monday that a rebellion devised by nine COSATU unions to create disruptions in time for an upcoming Central Executive Committee meeting has seemingly backfired. The document showed plans for a march led by suspended COSATU general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi. "We have not taken a decision. There is no march," Jim said. He said if they do decide to march it would be communicated by the leadership of the nine unions. "Media and (COSATU president) Sdumo (Dlamini) should not jump the ship," Jim said. Speaking at a Young Communist League rally in Sharpeville on Sunday, Dlamini hinted that he knew of plans to march to COSATU House. "Those who want to march to COSATU House won't succeed," he said. Jim said the nine unions remained firm in calling for Dlamini to host a special congress as they want Vavi reinstated.
