NUM Post-NEC Media Briefing

 

 

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) will on Saturday (22 February 2014)
hold a media briefing at its headquarters on the NEC meeting which started
today and ends tomorrow. The details are as follows:

 

.        Date: 22 February 2014 (Saturday)

.        Venue: 7 Rissik Street, corner Frederick, Marshalltown,
Johannesburg

 

Issues to be covered are as follows:

 

.        Mining industry and Instability

.        Current Platinum strike

.        Health and Safety challenges

.        Illegal mining and its challenges to South Africa 

.        Mining Charter and compliance with the transformation agenda

.        The importance of the unity of COSATU

.        ANC and 2014 General elections

 

Please note in addition that NUM General Secretary Frans Baleni will give a
short presentation on the dangers and dynamics of illegal mining and why
South Africa is under serious threat from organised crime.
