Press Release, 18 February 2014 Battle of Ideas Mini Rally NUM, ANC, COSATU and SACP to hold worker's battle of ideas mini rally in Witbank, Mpumalanga The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) together with the African National Congress (ANC) Congress of the South African Trade Unions (COSATU) and the South African Communist Party (SACP) will hold worker's battle of ideas mini rally (18-19 March 2014) at Witbank City Hall in Mpumalanga. Day 1: NUM Highveld Regional Shopsteward Council (18 March 2014) The NUM Highveld Regional Shopsteward Council Conference started today (18 March 2014). The stewards' council is dealing with three issues in the main: 1. Clarifying standpoints and briefing worker leaders about the developments in COSATU 2. Defending the NUM and COSATU and advancing worker's issues in the mining, energy and construction sectors. 3. Mobilising for a convincing victory for the ANC in the May 7 elections The stewards' council will also focus on service delivery to members and building stronger branches. Day 2: Political Input (Worker's battle of ideas mini rally) NUM Deputy President Piet Matosa, ANC Mpumalanga Regional Secretary Thomas Ngwenya, COSATU Mpumalanga Provincial Educator David Mokoena, and SACP Mpumalanga 2nd Deputy Provincial Secretary Mandla Tibane will address the rally.
