ANCWL Statement, 14 March 2014 Women's League Non Stop Election Campaign Free State Week The African National Congress Women's League National; and Provincial executive committee members have been very busy this week engaging with communities across the Free State as part of their non-stop election campaign. On Monday the ANCWL, led by President Angie Motshekga, campaigned in Senekal and Ficksburg where they engaged with community members about issues affecting the area and agreed with those communities on ways of addressing their concerns. During the campaign, in Ficksburg the ANCWL following a robust engagement with former ANCYL members who had joined the EFF agreed with them that they would return to the ANC, witnessing more than 300 EFF members being welcomed back to the ANC. These young people publicly declared that they accepted that the ANC remained the only legitimate party to take South Africa Forward. They indicated that they had abandoned it because of the frustrations they were experiencing as young people. With the support of the ANCWL, they agreed on how these would be dealt with moving forward. The ANCWL also conducted door to door campaigns in Bethlehem and engaged with community members directly on the good story and the ANC and the past 20 years of good governance and service delivery in the country. Amongst the groups the ANCWL met were the elderly, young people, faith based organisations, professionals and business people. In all these gatherings the ANCWL was well received and after lengthy discussions and engagements, the ANCWL gained the commitment from all potential voters that on the 7th of May, the ANC will be given its unconditional vote to take South Africa forward. Today (Friday) the ANCWL elections trail is in Harrismith to continue with its non- stop campaigning programme amongst young people, the elderly, professionals and the general community. As part of their campaign, the ANCWL will visit a nutrition centre, Mmamelo Support Centre initiated by the ANCWL with the support of government and the private sector. The nutrition centre acts as a drop in centre where orphans and indigent people come for meals, food parcels and general support. In the centre, the community of Harrismith working in partnership with government and the private sector implement different community support programmes. The WL will also visit farm workers, hawkers and address a public meeting of local residents. The ANCWL campaign will continue tomorrow on Saturday, the 15th and Sunday the 16th in Bethlehem addressing women burial societies, stokvels and different churches, including different groups of business and professional women. The ANCWL elections trail will then proceed to Gauteng for the week starting 17th March 23rd before going to the Western Cape from the 24th of March to the 30th March, proceed to the Western Cape, E.Cape, KwaZulu Natal, N.
