*YCLSA Northern Cape Press Statement* March 26, 2014
*Media Statement on the Appointment of Comrade Lebogang Olyn to the NYDA* The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] in the Northern Cape wishes to welcome and congratulate the Deputy Provincial Secretary of the YCLSA on his appointment to lead the Youth Development Agenda in our province. We are convinced that the interests and aspirations of young people will be prioritized under the leadership of Comrade Olyn. Comrade Olyn brings along with him, a lot of experience and skills in youth development. As a former COSAS, SASCO and current YCLSA leader, comrade Lebogang Olyn has reflected an understanding of the historic legacy of Colonisation of Special Type and the Apartheid legacy that continues to disadvantage young people. We believe that it is his commitment to studying and academic development that has brought about his appointment, as a PhD student, focusing on Public Policy. This experience and extensive comprehension of youth struggles and demands will be guided by his long standing revolutionary commitment to advance a better and more human society. We believe that central to his responsibilities must be to ensure the full implementation of the Youth Accord, with a special focus on the development of Youth Cooperatives. As the YCLSA we will continue to demand that the NYDA pursues education and skills development across the province to bridge the skills gap in the province and the country. The Accord prioritises work exposure and a school to graduation and work transition programme, with special emphasis on the public sector measures. These include public sector targets on youth employment, youth brigades, bursaries, youth entrepreneurship and the development of co-operatives, in contributing to a development state. The YCLSA wishes to reiterate its demand for a financial audit of the last NYDA Provincial Board. This will give hope to the unemployed and hopeless youth, who were marginalized as result of their socio-economic and political conditions. We further call for a speedy process on the decentralisation and presence of NYDA offices in local municipalities across the province, to ensure total access by the youth of our province. We would like to wish Comrade Olyn well in his new revolutionary responsibilities and tasks, and we know that he knows that failure is not an option and with our support as the Progressive Youth Alliance we will all succeed.
