Celebrate May Day on 1 May-COSATU
Limpopo to host 2014 May Day Celebrations at Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane
The
Congress of South African Trade Unions [COSATU], the African National Congress
and the South African Communist Party are to host a joint May Day National
Rally on the 01stMay 2014 at Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane,
Limpopo.

The
2014 May Day celebration will be celebrated under the Theme, “United
Action for service, to Defend and Safeguard Workers Unity and Rights”.

Workers
in South Africa fought for the recognition of the Workers’ Day and also as a
paid holiday, with COSATU leading a successful stayaway in 1986, barely five
months since the inception of this ‘Giant’, to fight for workers’ rights,
securing of social and economic justice for all workers and unite all trade
unions without discrimination and prejudice.

The
2014 May Day celebration will coincides with the celebrations of the Twenty
Years of Democracy in South Africa which was ushered with the well-known 1994
‘negotiated’ settlement.

COSATU
and all its Alliance partners will share a stage to remember all martyrs,
comrades and leaders, who died for the attainment of freedom and democracy in
this country.

Many
names come to mind like that of Comrade Violet Seboni, who died on the 03rd
April 2009 whilst she was going to campaign for the ANC in North West. Others
include Elijah Barayi, Leslie Massina, Chris Dlamini, Alina Rantsoalasi, John
Gomomo, Ray Alexander, Vuyisile Mini, Billy Nair, JB Marks, Moses Mabhida and
many more.
ANC
President, Cde Jacob Zuma, SACP General Secretary, Cde Blade Nzimande are to
address all attendees, with a Keynote speech delivered by the President of
COSATU, Cde Sidumo Dlamini.

The
event will be attended by COSATU Locals, ANC Branches and SACP Districts, to
commemorate the unequalled struggles waged by the working class across all
fronts, including at the community level.

Workers’
Day celebration will culminate in other provinces with hosting of workplace
forums, Affiliate Shopsteward Councils, Industrial blitz and one on one with
workers to popularize, “Why Workers should vote for the African
National Congress”. http://www.cosatu.org.za/docs/misc/2014/election_booklet.pdf
