SADTU Northern Free State Region Statement, 26 May 2014

Outcome of SADTU President Disciplinary Hearing

SADTU Northern Free State region shocked by the lenient sentence given to
former president Thobile Ntola

The Regional Executive Committee (REC) of SADTU in Northern Free State met
on the 23rd of May 2014 to discuss amongst others, the state of our
branches, report on the Disciplinary hearing of the president, preparations
for our provincial conference and national congress.

The REC welcomed the report on the disciplinary hearing of former president
Thobile Ntola as endorsed by our highest structure in between the congress
and NGC.

The REC was very much appalled by the charges against the president and
findings as deduced from evidence submitted.

While we respect and accept the decision of the NEC on the sanction, we are
of the firm view that the sanction of dismissal for period of 10 years is
really lenient considering the fact that Mr Ntola continues to confuse our
members. He is still acting mischievously, eg. addressing SADTU members and
peddle lies about his suspension and expulsion. We therefore recommend that
his membership be terminated for good.

We cannot be seen to be massaging those involved in corrupt activities, more
so that they hold position of trust.

Mr Ntola has amassed wealth at the expense of workers who are fighting very
hard to access their 0,5% which translate to R79 per month in rands and
cents.

We will be finding ways of reaching our higher structures to agitate for
criminal charges to be instituted against Mr Ntola as well.

We are shocked by the new tendency adopted by the former president of using
the media to deal with his disciplinary hearing/charges. He is the one who
informed the media about his charges. The NEC afforded him opportunity to
clear his name, but he kept on requesting a postponement citing illness as a
reason. When he is called by the media he becomes available, but when the
Union needs him to come and answer to charges as levelled against him, he is
nowhere to be found.

This is the type of leader who always signals left but is moving to the
right. Mr Ntola has become bigger than the Union itself.

The REC wish to thank and congratulate both the NWC and NEC collective for
the manner in which they led us through this difficult period in our Union.
Our leadership put our Constitution and interests of members above
everything else. It withstood all the lies, insults and attacks by those who
wish to see this Union going down the drain.
