SACP Gauteng Provincial Executive Committee, 13 August 2014 SACP Gauteng lodges formal Complaint of Racism with SAHRC against Arcelor-Mittal on behalf of workers The SACP Gauteng has lodged a complaint with the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) against Arcelor-Mittal on behalf of workers. The complaint was formalized yesterday, 12 August 2014. The complaint requests the SAHRC to investigate serious allegations of racism against Arcelor-Mittal, one of the world's largest steel producers. The SACP staged a successful protest action on Monday, 4th August 2014 to highlight the plight of these workers. We further requested the SAHRC to investigate the conduct and activities of labour brokers who subject workers to precarious and highly exploitative working conditions including racism. The SACP's intervention in Arcelor-Mittal followed a request by workers to establish an SACP Industrial Unit to defend them against the steel monopoly. Workers approached the SACP based on their experience of complete neglect, dereliction of duty and collaboration by those they regarded as their revolutionary representatives. This complete neglect of workers is a direct result of tensions and contradictions directly resulting from those attempting to concoct the role of a trade union movement with that of a revolutionary Marxist-Leninist vanguard party. The SACP will soon launch the Industrial Unit against the narrow wishes of class collaborators and business trade unionists hell-bent on dividing workers. This liquidation of worker unity is intended to create better conditions for the bourgeoisie to restructure production, to survive the effects of a world economic recession. The SACP clearly understand that restructuring of production by monopoly capital can only take place if unions are divided and weakened, opportunistically focussed on pseudo-radical and populist rhetoric to disguise the real class agenda at play.
