SACP Gauteng Province to Lead a March and Rally Against Fascism, in Defence
of Democracy

On Sunday, 21 September 2014

SACP Gauteng Province held a successful Special Provincial Executive
Committee (PEC) Lekgotla in the City of Tshwane from Saturday, 13th-14th
September 2014 at NEHAWU Regional Office. PEC Lekgotla was addressed by the
Deputy Provincial Chairperson of the ANC, comrade Gwen Ramokgopa.

PEC welcomed and appreciated the decisions of the last Central Committee
held in August of this year on the re-emergence post our democratic
dispensation of a fascist tendency that seeks to undermine democracy in our
country. This dangerous tendency, often masquerading as a revolutionary
practice, has in the last few months launched a series of attacks against
key pillars of our democratic institutions, especially parliament and
legislatures.

PEC strongly condemned the severe and shocking attacks and trail of
destruction against Gauteng Legislature led by these fanatics of violence.
As was clearly evident for all to see, these fanatics of violence also left
a trail of damage against poor hawkers and ordinary working class masses in
the streets of Johannesburg.

SACP strongly believe that if these forces that are clearly obsessed with
violence and destruction are allowed to continue without any serious
revolutionary intervention, such failure to act decisively will constitute
an act of betrayal of Africa's long struggle for national liberation,
freedom and emancipation.

SACP believes that leaving pillars of our democracy to fascist fanatics and
violence-prone anarchists freely riding the right-wing populist wave will be
tantamount to betrayal of the values and principles of our democracy.

Whilst SACP condemns the fact that these fascists and violence-prone
fanatics are hell-bent on undermining the "decorum" of parliament, the
launch of a programme and front against fascism is not about the "decorum"
of parliament. It is essentially about pushing back the frontiers of
Boko-Haram and Nazi inspired counter-revolution.

Violence in parliament, destruction, and attacks of its institutions is a
direct attack on democracy.

It is also an obstructionist attempt to shift focus away from strategic
issues facing our people, with the hope of obstructing the radical second
phase of our democratic revolution

The fight against fascism is a principled and historic struggle of
communists and revolutionary forces in the world. PEC also identified a
direct link between the fascists and violence-prone anarchists as a part of
the "low intensity counter-revolution" that is desperate to gradually weaken
and undermine the democratic rule of the ANC and its Alliance partners.

It is in this context that the SACP in Gauteng will moving forward and work
hard to launch and lead a front to mobilise the broadest sections of the
working class, the revolutionary and progressive people to fight fascism and
defend democratic pillars of democracy.

Details of the Anti-Fascist Protest March and Anti-Fascist Rally

The March and Rally will take place as follows: Sunday, 21st September 2014,
10h00, proceeding from Constitutional Hill to Library Gardens. At the
Library Gardens an Anti-Fascist Rally will be held, and will be addressed by
Alliance structures.

As part of the Rally, a letter will be handed over to the Speaker of the
Gauteng Legislature, comrade Ntombi Mekgwe calling for a full, open and
transparent investigation of security breaches at the Legislature and for
its destruction and damage. Through this letter, the rally will also seek
full accountability against all those that exposed Honourable Members of the
Legislature and workers to a live threatening danger.

The SACP in particular will also request that those who were responsible for
the security breaches, damage and attacks against the Legislature should be
held criminally liable. SACP believes that failure to take decisive action
and hold those responsible criminally liable may be perceived as
ratification of, and tantamount to, collusion, and that such failure will be
equal to betrayal of our National Democratic Revolution and everything our
constitutional democracy stands for.
