SACP slams opposition over JZ stance

SACP general secretary Blade Nzimande has hit out at opposition parties over
their continued insistence that President Jacob Zuma appears in Parliament
to answer questions on Nkandla.

Nzimande, speaking at an SACP Central Committee meeting in Johannesburg over
the weekend, accused opposition parties of teaming up to discredit the ANC.
He accused the EFF of pushing its "egotistic agenda" in Parliament and
claimed that the DA's parliamentary caucus had been "captured" by a
"youngish, largely male white, often racist, brat-pack."

"The EFF, a demagogic, neo-fascist, populist formation has made it clear
that it is prepared to erode the legitimacy of hard-won democratic
institutions as it advances, hell-bent on its egotistic agenda. The EFF are
not the only ones who have forgotten the situation out of which our present
democracy emerged. There is now a youngish, largely male white, often
racist, brat-pack within the DA that has captured hegemony in its
parliamentary caucus," Nzimande was quoted as saying by the SABC.

"What is robust about what is going on in parliament today, what does robust
mean? Have we deteriorated as the media and as the country to an extent that
anarchy and hooliganism is called robustness? What debates have you heard
from the EFF of any substance either than banging the desks to say pay back
the money? Is that the new benchmark that the media is setting up to say
it's robustness? God help us all. If that's the case, then we might as well
close my department, the Department of Education and Higher Training because
we mustn't allow anybody to be more educated because now you can be robust
by banging desks in parliament."

Last week Parliament adopted a recommendation that EFF MPs be suspended from
Parliament for 30 days without pay for heckling President Jacob Zuma in
Parliament in August.
