Dlamini urges NEHAWU members to defend COSATU

Steven Tau, The Citizen, Johannesburg, 8 December 2014

COSATU president S'dumo Dlamini has called on union members not to discuss
problems faced by the trade union federation, but rather to find solutions.

Addressing members of the National Health and Allied Workers Union (NEHAWU)
in Boksburg on Monday afternoon, Dlamini urged them to fight with all that
they had to defend COSATU.

He also called on union members to stand ready with their "sticks" in the
wake of plans for the formation of splinter unions.

"Why would someone want to form a union that would counter COSATU? The
intention for forming such a union is to feed into the agenda of liquidating
COSATU," Dlamini said.

He also took a swipe at the National Union of Metalworkers South Africa
(NUMSA) leadership.

NUMSA was recently expelled from COSATU.

"The money that NUMSA is using to take us to court should be used to call
another special congress where they will reverse resolutions taken in
December last year."

Dlamini said a special COSATU congress would be held between July 13 and 16
next year.
