Security guard found dead at Durban school Khatija Nxedlana, East Coast Radio, Durban, 10 March 2015 A security guard at Makhutha High School, south of Durban has been found dead on the school's premises. Police say the 32-year-old man was found this morning with a gunshot wound to the head. The police's Jay Naicker says a case of murder is being investigated and no arrests have been made. ''At this stage detectives are busy over the investigation as well as at the [criminal] records centre. The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage,'' he said. Meanwhile, teachers union SADTU says this is the second case in the province this year following the death of a security guard at Clydesdale Junior Secondary School in UMzimkhulu in January. SADTU provincial secretary Nomarashiya Caluza has demanded the provincial education department to ensure improved safety for workers at schools. ''It just raises concerns as to whether our safety as workers, teachers and learners in schools - are we really in a conducive work environment to do what we are supposed to do,'' she said.
