COSATU: Govt Backtracking on Settled Public Service Wage Offer Govan Whittles, Eye Witness News, Johannesburg, 26 March 2015 With only five days to go until the end of the public service wage agreement, Congress of South African Trade Union (COSATU) unions have accused government of backtracking on a pre-negotiated salary offer. COSATU represents the majority of unionised workers in the public sector, and yesterday rejected an offer of five percent which was increased from 4.8 percent. JMC3.jpg The COSATU bloc But negotiators claim all parties agreed that the starting point for this year's talks would be 5.8 percent. COSATU's Nkosana Dolopi says they had an agreement with government. "In that case it was 5,8 percent. We all agreed that will be where the employer will be moving from. So for them to reenact on what we've agreed on at this level of negotiations, it's really disturbing. They're showing dishonesty." The newly-negotiated agreement is expected to be implemented from 1 April.
