KZN COSATU condemns Vavi's press briefing 'Paranoia,' says Provincial Secretary Khatija Nxedlana, East Coast Radio, Durban, 30 March 2015 COSATU's KZN branch believes that the press briefing held by the trade union federation's national general-secretary Zwelinzima Vavi at the weekend was unnecessary. Vavi yesterday called a media conference and announced that he will not be resigning from COSATU, dismissing claims that he was involved in any wrongdoing that saw him benefiting unduly from purchases related to COSATU. Earlier this month, it was announced that a forensic report into alleged impropriety in the sale of COSATU's old head office and purchase of a new one implicated Vavi. The report showed that the auditors had not been able to meet Vavi despite their attempts to do so. COSATU's provincial secretary Edwin Mkhize says COSATU in KZN does not support any one individual but the collective leadership. "There was no need for any press briefing on that one. One can actually describe it as paranoia. No one has ever said the General Secretary must go anywhere. That matter is a matter that is going to be discussed and debated by the Chief Executive Committee of COSATU, which is only starting today. So we don't think there should be any pronouncements of going or not going anywhere," he said. Last week, COSATU KZN called for a motion of no confidence in Vavi. Vavi is boycotting COSATU's Central Executive Committee meeting taking place in Johannesburg this afternoon.
