SATAWU leads the current N1 and N2 toll gates strike over wages

SATAWU has declared a strike against a company called PT Operations that is
contracted by the Bakwena to operate certain highway toll gates on the N1
and N2.

SATAWU members are demanding the following from the employer:

1. R4 500 wages per month

2. Free Transport to work

3. R65 shift allowance

4. Above CPIX increase on benefits

The employer is currently offering our members R2000,00 wages per month,
with no transport, night shift allowance and their proposed wage offer is
sitting at CPI percentage to be added to the R2000,00 PM.

It is understood that the employer has contracted the services of a labour
broker to manage with the traffic nightmares on the toll gates while our
members are on an indefinite strike action.

We call upon the employer to accede to the demands of the workers and stop
holding the holiday-loving people of South Africa to a ransom as the labour
broker staffers cannot effectively deal with the huge work pressures.
