SACP South African Communist Party Press Alert: Chris Hani Commemoration, 22nd Anniversary Wednesday, 8 April 2015, Johannesburg South Africa's liberation Alliance headed by the African National Congress (ANC), the South African Communist Party (SACP) and the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu), will commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the assassination of Chris Hani. Hani was SACP General Secretary, ANC National Executive Committee member and the Chief of Staff of the joint ANC-SACP liberation army, Umkhonto we Sizwe. He was assassinated on 10 April 1993. All the details about his cold blooded murder have not been disclosed 22 years since his unrepentant murderers were arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment. Details of the event are as follows: Date: Friday, 10 April 2015 Venue: Thomas Nkobi Memorial Cemetery, Boksburg, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, Gauteng Province Starting Time: 10h00 Activities: The event will include a mass rally, a Wreath Laying Ceremony, and the official opening of the Chris Hani Memorial and Wall of Remembrance. Speakers: * ANC and State President Jacob Zuma; * SACP General Secretary Blade Nzimande, also Minister of Higher Education and Training; * Cosatu President S'dumo Dlamini; * YCLSA National Secretary Mluleki Dlelanga; * Cde Limpo Hani, the wife of Chris Hani. The event is hosted in collaboration with the City of Ekurhuleni which has conferred the freedom of the city to Chris Hani, OR Tambo and Dr Adelaide Tambo for the role they have played in the struggle for freedom.
