President June Dube's house

The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) deeply regrets
to confirm that one of its members, Gauteng secretary general Comrade Chris
Nkosi, was shot dead by unknown assailants.

Cde Nkosi was shot five times and died in his car at an intersection in
Germiston while driving home on Monday evening.

The SATAWU President's home was also petrol bombed late on Monday night.
President June Dube, his wife and children were not harmed in a petrol bomb
attack at his house.

SATAWU General Secretary, Zenzo Mahlangu, condemns these acts of violence on
our leadership. We call on all members of the union at this delicate time,
to exercise maximum restraint and to act in accordance with obligations
under the law.

"We urge anyone who may have information about this shooting and bombing to
contact the police immediately," says Cde Mahlangu

SATAWU also calls on the police to do their best to find the killers.

"We want the law to take its course and for a thorough investigation so the
perpetrators are brought to book. "

SATAWU also extends heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and
political colleagues of the Cde Nkosi.

We wish to also extend our thoughts to the Dube family.
