COSATU Northern Cape Statement, 19 April 2015 The current public sector collective bargaining impasse COSATU NC mobilises Public Servants at Kimberley, De Aar, Kuruman, Upington, Springbok, Colesberg and Prieska for action! The Congress of South African Trade Unions in the Northern Cape held a Provincial Joint Mandating Committee (JMC) in Kimberley to receive a report back on the salary negotiations in the Public Sector. Subsequent to that meeting we resolved to develop a programme of report back sessions by the Affiliates, which is currently underway. JMC4.jpg COSATU Joint Mandating Committee (JMC) The JMC has resolved to convene general meetings of all public servants at 14h00 on 22 April 2015 in the following areas: Kimberley, De Aar, Kuruman, Upington, Springbok, Colesberg and Prieska. These meetings will be used as platforms to mobilise the workers to be ready to take the war to the employer as they have proven to be arrogant and intransigent. These meetings will be followed by a regional march in Kimberley and pickets and demonstrations in all the remaining towns in the province. It is quite disappointing to note that our employer in the public service undermines the workers the way they do. Reducing an offer for the workers; and declaring a dispute against the workers' legitimate demands in the worst form of undermining we have ever seen in the history of collective bargaining since the dawn of democracy. We call on all the workers, who are members of the COSATU affiliated public sector unions to join those meetings and pickets too demonstrate their displeasure at the arrogance of the employer. The Northern Cape as part of the broader exploited working class cadreship will be joining the multitudes of workers throughout the country in declaring out intention to confront the capitalist onslaught on the working class head on.
