Morning Star.png Nepal Parties Reach Agreement on Republican Constitution The Morning Star, London, 10 June 2015 Nepal's main political parties reached key agreements yesterday on the country's long-delayed new post-monarchist constitution. The accords were signed by leaders of the four main political parties, including the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) after hours of negotiations at Prime Minister Sushil Koirala's residence. Under the agreements, Nepal would have eight federal states, with boundaries to be set by a special commission. The Maoists' decade-long war against the Nepalese kingdom ended with the reinstatement of the suspended parliament in 2006 and the abolition of the monarchy in 2008. The party won the the largest share of seats in 2008 elections and led a coalition government, but its leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal, known as Prachanda, quit as prime minister in 2009 after his authority was undermined by the Nepalese Congress Party of President Ram Baran Yadav.
