News24newest.jpg Leadership elected for COSATU Western Cape Tammy Petersen, News24, Cape Town, 19 July 2015 The leadership to take the helm of COSATU in the Western Cape for the next three years has been elected. Mogwase Tsobane was on Sunday announced as chairperson, Andile Ngqaneka as deputy chairperson, Ingrid Leukes as treasurer and Tony Ehrenreich as secretary. The trade union federation held its provincial congress over the weekend in Pinelands, drawing 858 delagates from 16 unions. Ehrenreich in a statement said COSATU's commitment to "a decent work province with a minimum wage" was reaffirmed at the congress. "[We] will protect all workers with solidarity strike action at disputes between workers and bosses. We commit to ban labour brokers and outsourcing in the province," he said. "COSATU Western Cape is united in taking forward the programme of unity and will co-ordinate co-operation between affiliates." Ehrenreich said they have "committed to working with the ANC" to win the 2016 local government election, saying the DA and its "programme to segregate the Western Cape from the rest of the country as well as their promotions of racial tensions must be defeated by the programme from COSATU". "We commit to stopping all forms of racism and discrimination in a practical way by changing attitudes and the way communities are built and serviced," he said. "We have assessed the social injury suffered by workers and the working class. This is manifested in the lack of social services like transport, healthcare, education, housing and basic services." Ehrenreich said they would ensure that service delivery is "prioritised to working class areas with rich, white areas following after poor areas".
