Morning Star.png South Africa: MPs Call for Return of Profits from the Corrupt The Morning Star, London, 19 August 2015 African National Congress (ANC) MPs demanded that profiteering contractors and corrupt officials pay back their ill-gotten gains from the security upgrade of President Jacob Zuma’s home. The report of the ad hoc committee to consider the police minister’s report regarding security upgrades at the president’s private residence in Nkandla was adopted by the the lower house of South Africa’s parliament yesterday. The report found that the price of the upgrade was grossly inflated through the corrupt collusion of officials and private contractors, reaching 246 million rand (£12m). Contrary to opposition allegations of unwarranted luxury and demands for repayment, the report also found visibly shoddy workmanship and the use of cheap materials. ANC parliamentary spokesman Moloto Mothapo said: “The notion that the President must pay is sad testimony to the state of South Africa’s opposition that is better known for its narrow and self-serving posturing than desire to fight corruption.” From: http://www.morningstaronline.co.uk/a-9e82-South-Africa-MPs-call-for-return-o f-profits-from-the-corrupt#.VdRJQ_mqqko -- -- You are subscribed.
