SAMWU signs Salary and Wage Agreement with SALGA
The South African Municipal Workers' Union (SAMWU) has signed the wage and
salary agreement with the employer body representing the country 278
municipalities, SALGA. The signing comes after rigorous mandate taking
process which resulted in the SAMWU August CEC confirming that majority of
our members had accepted the facilitator's report without any additions or
subtractions.
Municipal Workers should receive their salary increases as of this month
back-dated from July 2015. We would like to thank our members for the
patience during the negotiations process and the trust they had bestowed
upon our negotiation team. The signed agreement will include.
1. A multiyear agreement with effective from 1 July 2015 to 30 June
2018
2. 7% across the board salary increase in the first year of the
agreement and CPI +1% for the remainder of the agreement.
3. Sectoral minimum wage of R 6 014.93 with effect 1 July 2015
4. Retention of the 60:40 employer medical contribution however maximum
employer contribution will increase to a maximum of R3 871
5. A new housing allowance dispensation for low earners who are
currently not servicing bonds, of an amount of R350
6. R700 homeowner's allowance of R700
