Twenty-Two UAE Soldiers Killed by Houthi Missile

The Morning Star, London, 5 September 2015

Twenty-two soldiers of the United Arab Emirates were killed in Yemen
yesterday.

The troops perished when a Houthi missile hit a weapons storage depot close
to their location. It is the largest loss of life sustained by the despotic
Gulf confederation so far in the Yemeni conflict, where it has joined the
Saudi-led coalition seeking to crush the Houthi rebellion and restore power
to exiled President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi.

Clashes between Houthis and pro-Hadi forces, as well as air strikes by the
Saudi-led coalition, intensified this week in Marib as the opposing sides
gear up for a critical battle over the coming days.

Despite regular Saudi bombing raids which have caused huge civilian
casualties in the poverty-stricken nation the Houthis, who are fighting
alongside forces loyal to former long-term president Ali Abdullah Saleh,
still control the capital city Sanaa and most of the country.
