Vavi 'speedy' to slam the media

Former COSATU leader Zwelinzima Vavi has accused the media of an agenda
against him after he appeared in the Edenvale Magistrate's Court yesterday
for a speeding offence.

He is accused of exceeding 120km/h on the Albertina Sisulu R24 freeway early
on Sunday with reports suggesting he was driving at 207km/h which he denied
on Twitter.

"Today I appeared in court accused of driving 182km/h in a 120km zone. The
207km is a creation of my media friends," Vavi said on Twitter.

Another message read: "Will appear again on November 4, intend to make
presentations to court, I obviously can't comment now till all processes are
concluded."

Vavi was among six speeding motorists who were arrested on the R24.

Ekurhuleni metro police department spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng confirmed
the arrests in a statement.

Mokheseng said between 5am and 11am on the R24 freeway between Barbara and
Edenvale bridges, metro police officers conducted speed checks for motor
vehicles travelling towards the east and west. "Six motorists were arrested
for exceeding the 120km/h speed limit. Among the six detained, a 52-year-old
man with a female passenger was caught doing 182km/h at 6.09am."

In 2013, Vavi was the centre of a "rape" and "extortion" scandal.
