Strike and Blackout of Johannesburg and Suburbs

Media Invitation to SAMWU Press Conference

The South African Municipal Workers' Union (SAMWU) has issued the City of
Johannesburg's power utility City Power with our intension to go on a full
blown strike beginning on Monday 19 October 2015. The strike action will
result in a total blackout of Johannesburg and all its suburbs.

City Power has failed to address issues relating to corruption levelled
against the Managing Director. It is surprising that the board chairperson,
Reverent Frank Chikane who has ordained himself as the moral authority has
failed to act on corruption allegations which are happening under his watch.

Members of the media are hereby invited to a press briefing on detailed
issues leading to the strike, how the strike will unfold and the impacts
thereof. Details of the press conference are as follows:

. Date: 8 October 2015 (Thursday)

. Time: 10h00

. Venue: 3rd Floor SAMWU House, 84 Frederick Street, Johannesburg

Issued by SAMWU Greater Johannesburg Region

Paul Tlhabang

Deputy Regional Secretary

M: 072 566 1575
