CapeArgus.gif COSATU backs SADTU on ANAs Shanti Aboobaker, Saturday Argus, 17 October 2015 COSATU has come out in support of the country's largest teacher union, SADTU, by opposing the ANC national general council's insistence last week that annual national assessments take place this year. The country's largest trade union federation said on Friday the current form of assessment was not in the best interests of pupils and would do nothing to improve the quality of education. While the idea of assessments is supported in principle by most teacher unions, COSATU on Friday called on the Basic Education Department to respect the work of the team tasked with talking to all stakeholders on the matter. The assessments are normally held after final exams and have been criticised as being irrelevant because pupils do not then try hard.
