YCLSA 3rd National

 

University-Based Branch Summit

 

 

The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] will be holding its
third National University Based Branch Summit, in Johannesburg, Gauteng
Province, 13-15 November 2015.

 

The purpose of the Summit is to closely examine the role of the YCLSA in
higher education and training, develop a comprehensive program of action to
be undertaken by our branches in Higher education.

 

Some of the issues to be discussed at the summit include the following:

.    Financial and academic exclusions

.    Funding model for free education.

.    Higher Education Draft Bill

.    Lack of habitable and safe accommodation

.    Lack of adequate material for teaching and learning, inexperienced and
at times shortage of lecturers.

.    The total banning of outsourcing of services, whether core or non-core,
rendered by institutions of higher learning. This includes services like
catering, security, cleaning and other essential and non-essential services.

 

By the end of the summit we want our branches to mobilise students to ensure
that:

.    Financial aid offices implement government commitments

.    The intensification of the National Skills Development Strategy [NSDS]

.    Promote skills development initiatives for youth in communities

.    Intensify campaign for full implementation of free education within a
shortest interval

.    Launch a focused campaign against corruption on our universities.

 

The summit will be addressed by the following speakers:

.    Dr Blade Nzimande, SACP General Secretary

.    Dr Steve Friedman, academic, newspaper columnist, widely quoted public
intellectual,activist, former trade unionist and journalist

.    Mluleki Dlelanga, YCLSA National Secretary

.    SASCO

.    ANCYL

.    Date: Friday November 13 until Sunday November 15, 2015

 

.    Venue: Elijah Barayi Memorial Training Centre, 127 New Road Grand
Central, Midrand

 

 

The declaration of the summit will be availed for media our membership and
