ANC no letters.jpg Statement, 12 November 2015 ANC Condemns Circulation of Fake Maths Re-Write Memo The ANC study group on basic education has noted with deep regret the circulation of a fake notice, purporting to be an official memo of the department of basic education, informing matriculants and the public about the re-writing of the Grade 12 Mathematics paper 2 examinations that was written on November 2 this year. We would like to urge our matriculants and the public at large to ignore the circulated notice and continue with their examinations as scheduled because it is fake and it has not been issued by the department of basic education. Upon discovering the fake notice, chairperson of the ANC study group on basic educations, Nomalungelo Gina, immediately contacted the department of basic education to establish the authenticity of the notice and why it would have been issued. The chairperson had been alerted to the fake notice by concerned members of the public and educators. The department confirmed to the chairperson that the circular is fake, had not been issued by them and that there's been no report of any compromise to the Maths paper written last Monday. The department further confirmed that this year's matric exams were progressing very well and there have no disturbances reported. As the ANC, we would like to call on the department to conduct a full investigation of the source of this fake circular and whoever is responsible must face the full might of the law because such an act has potential of denting the credibility of the national senior certificate examination and cause unnecessary panic among our learners. We also call on all our learners and teachers not to be distracted by this senseless and malicious behaviour. Those responsible will be dealt with harshly as soon as they are uncovered. We continue to wish our matriculants and all our learners who are writing their examinations all the best of luck in their efforts.
