Washington Provides Bombs for Yemen Chaos

The Morning Star, London, 18 November 2015

The US government will sell bombs worth $1.3 billion (£850 million) to Saudi
Arabia to continue its military campaign in Yemen.

The State Department said on Monday that the package included several
laser-guided bombs and other models.

A statement said the deal “replenishes” weapons stocks depleted by Saudi
Arabia’s eight-month bombing campaign and recent ground invasion of Yemen,
which has brought the country to the brink of collapse with millions facing
starvation.

Riyadh and its coalition of smaller regional powers is trying to reinstate
president Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, who was deposed in January by Houthi
Ansar Allah forces.

Ansar Allah killed 44 Hadi loyalists in an ambush in the port of Mocha on
Monday, while 13 were killed in nearby Taiz, where air strikes were claimed
to have killed 40 Houthis.

The Iranian Fars news agency reported that dozens of Hadi fighters were
killed in Taiz yesterday by “friendly fire” from coalition jets.
