The ANC in the North West targets a record of 150 000 people at the party's
upcoming "January 8" anniversary, which will be celebrated on 9 January
2016.

The provincial party leadership said it looked forward to a capacity crowd
from local and international guests that would paint the Royal Bafokeng
Stadium near Rustenburg in the party's black, gold and green colours.

The ANC celebrates 104 years of existence and President Jacob Zuma is
expected to address the gathering.

Party leaders including provincial chairperson Supra Mahumapelo have been
drumming up support in Phela village and other surrounding areas.

Deputy ANC chairperson in the province Sello Lehare said during the party's
door-to-door campaign in Letlhakane near Pella that the party was expecting
to fill up the 49 000-seater stadium and have more people watching from
outside the venue.

"We will be bussing some 500 people per ward and we have more than 200 wards
in our province. Moreover, there will be other guests from outside the
province as it is the norm during the ANC birthday celebrations," he said.

Lehare further said intense mobilisation would be done throughout December
to make sure the message reached a large number of people.

"Through this campaign we are also renewing our relationship with our people
and reporting back where necessary," he said.

The door-to-door campaign followed the provincial executive committee's
(PEC) meeting at the Bakwena-ba-Morare Tribal Administration offices where
the ANC spoke about its programmes in the past year and had a presentation
on the area's mineral resources.

"We are looking at which minerals are available so that we can create jobs,
the biggest challenge in the area," he said.

ANCWL's provincial secretary Bridgette Mogakwe said they looked forward to
women-run businesses capitalising on the event to make money.

"Even those women who are not part of the ANC but are in business will also
be providing services and benefiting on the day," she said.

One community member, Bakang Moeng, said he was happy that ANC leaders came
to visit the area.

"I am happy that the ANC is also bringing the celebrations of the 104- year
anniversary to our province so that we can wish the party well."
