The Presidency said Naidoo had died at 2 Military Hospital in Cape Town on Sunday night. In a statement, Zuma said Naidoo was one of the first combatants of the ANC's uMkhonto WeSizwe (MK). Naidoo was awarded the Order of Mendi by Zuma in 2014. Zuma said Naidoo was one of the first MK operatives to go into action and one of the first to be jailed. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Naidoo family and his comrades in the liberation struggle at the moment. Naidoo will be remembered for his fearlessness in the face of the most brutal of oppressive systems. We wish to convey our heartfelt condolences on his sad passing and may his soul rest in peace," said Zuma. ANC The ANC also issued a statement on Naidoo's passing, saying his death had robbed it of a longstanding cadre. "His loyalty, commitment and sacrifices have endeared him to the historically down trodden of our country. As a true cadre, he has remained strictly consistent on being a member of the ANC. The ANC takes this opportunity to send condolences to his family and community. May his soul rest in peace," the party said. Facebook In a heartfelt Facebook post, Naidoo's brother Murti said he had been one of the bravest and most courageous freedom fighters he had ever known. "He carries with him the scars which is testimony to his courage. A bullet wound to his left shoulder shot at point blank range by "Rooi Rus" Swanepol at the scene of sabotage. The bullet entered his shoulder and exited at the back. While serving a 10-year sentence on Robben Island he was lashed for insubordination, he was insubordinate when it came to injustice, he took it like the courageous guy he was. Go well my brother my comrade you will always be remembered," Murti Naidoo said.
