SACPblackStar.jpg South African Communist Party, 5 January 2016 SACP saddened by the passing away of its stalwart Comrade Indres Naidoo The South Afrcan Communist Party sends its message of heartfelt condolences to the family of our struggle stalwart, Indres Naidoo, who passed away at 79 late on Sunday evening, 3 January 2016. Comrade Indres Naidoo served our national liberation movement and struggle for social emancipation from the 1950s. He was one of the first cadres of our movement to swell the ranks of the joint ANC-SACP armed wing, uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) soon after it was established in 1961. A dependable cadre and communist in his own right, Comrade Indres came from a family of Communist cadres, starting with his father, Comrade Roy. He served the MK wholeheartedly. He was caught by the apartheid regime in 1963 and sentenced to ten years imprisonment at Robben Island. Upon his release from prison he never demobilised. He continued the course of struggle throughout the period of illegality and thereafter. Comrade Indres among others worked very closely with our Party's former General Secretary and National Chairperson who was also Chief of Staff of the MK, Comrade Joe Slovo. And after the unbanning of the SACP and other components of our ANC-led national liberation movement that had been banned by the apartheid regime, Comrade Indres worked at the Headquarters of the SACP with Comrade Chris Hani as General Secretary. Comrade Chris Hani had also taken over from Comrade Joe Slovo as the MK Chief of Staff. The SACP says let us strengthen the unity of the motive forces of our national democratic revolution in memory of Comrade Indres Naidoo! Let us place our country's transformation on to a second, more radical phase of our democratic transition to completely eliminate racism in our society and solve the persisting problems of high levels of inequality, unemployment and poverty!
