Eyewitness News 3.png COSATU Comes to Affiliate's Defence COSATU has raised concerns about what it says is a campaign to de-legitimise its affiliate unions Govan Whittles, Eye Witness News, Johannesburg, 5 February 2016 Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) has raised concerns about what it says is a campaign to de-legitimise its affiliate unions through laws and the premature release of sensitive reports. The federation is unhappy with the leak of a basic education task team report on the alleged sale of government teacher's jobs by members of South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU). COSATU says it's also concerned that the African National Congress and South African Communist Party (SACP) have been implicated in the findings of the report. In response, SADTU denied that any union officials were sanctioned to sell teachers posts. COSATU's Bheki Ntshalintshali says SADTU is being used as a scapegoat. "The CEC [Central Executive Committee] condemns the leaking of the report and concludes that it's a deliberate attempt to smear SADTU in public. We call on the minister [Angie Motshekga] to refrain from publicly using SADTU as a scapegoat."
