Morning Star.png Referendum Result is No! Evo To Go In 2019 Morning Star, London, 25 February 2016 Bolivian voters have narrowly rejected a proposal to remove presidential term limits in a national referendum. With 99.5 per cent of polling stations declared on Tuesday, the No vote stood at 51.3 per cent and the Yes at 48.7, a margin of 160,000 votes. A Yes vote would have allowed Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) President Evo Morales and Vice-President Alvaro Garcia to seek office again in 2019. EvoAndAlvaro.jpg Alvaro Garcia and Evo Morales The left-wing president was first elected in 2006, but the adoption of a new national constitution in 2009 - including a two-term limit on public offices - prompted early elections. Mr Garcia said the government would respect the result and rejected the right-wing opposition's claims that it was a defeat for Mr Morales. The opposition nevertheless made allegations of ballot-rigging by the government. "We ask the opposition to calm down and respect the results," Mr Garcia said.
