SADTU Western Cape Statement, 9 March 2016

Launch of Counter Federation

Launch of counter federation in the Western Cape a mere pipe dream

SADTU in the Western Province recently held education worker fora in all 6
regions of the province reporting to members on issues which included
pension reforms, housing and medical aid increases to determine the
organizational strength of our structure.

We are proud to report that members expressed their appreciation that the
leadership of the union have addressed them on a variety of crucial issues
and have pledged support for the SADTU programme.

During the past month, members from the length and breadth of the province
attended the following initiatives of the union.

. Choir conductors' seminar

. Launch of the 365 days of activism against women and children abuse

. Connecting classrooms to introduce innovative classroom practices

Members have expressed their satisfaction with the union and indicated that
SADTU is and will remain their home.

Since the schools reopened in January 2016 our structures have visited more
than 1300 schools in the province to deliver members diaries and listen to
their concerns.

Recently at a COSATU Joint Shop Stewards Council held at the Cape Town City
Hall, shop- stewards from all COSATU affiliates pledged support for the
COSATU programmes.

Therefore, we want to categorically state that the launch of an alternate
federation in the Western Cape is a mere a pipe dream.
