IS Hits Iraq Village with Chemical Weapons

The Morning Star, London, 14 March 2016

Islamic State (IS) used chemical weapons against a northern Iraqi village
for the second time at the weekend, in attacks which killed a small child
and put about 600 people in hospital.

The attack hit Taza, near the city of Kirkuk, early on Saturday, where a
similar attack using chemical-armed rockets took place on Wednesday.

Hospital nurse Helmi Hamdi said the casualties were suffering from infected
burns, suffocation and dehydration. Eight were transferred to Baghdad for
treatment.

Three-year-old Fatima Wais died when her condition worsened following her
discharge from Kirkuk hospital after the first attack.

Her father, militiaman Sameer Wais, said: "Her face puffed up and her eyes
bulged. Then she turned black and pieces of her skin started to come off."

In Washington, the US government was still considering whether to declare
that Isis atrocities constitute genocide.
