Johannesburg Government Official's House Petrol Bombed

SABC, Johannesburg, 31 March 2016

The Soweto home of Johannesburg Member of the Mayoral Committee for
Infrastructure and Environment, Matshidiso Mfikoe, has been bombed. The
incident happened on Wednesday night.

The motive for the attack is not yet known, but it's believed it could be
connected to the on-going unprotected strike at waste management company
Pikitup.

"I can confirm that MMC Mfikoe's house was petrol bombed Wednesday night. It
is not clear who the culprits are but she happens to be the political head
in charge of the portfolio in the city that is responsible for Pikitup which
all know.

"Workers are currently under an unprotected work stoppage. But as to say who
could be responsible we can't really say it is Pikitup workers or whoever
it's a criminal thing that has happened and as it stands it's a matter for
the South African Police to deal with," says Johannesburg mayoral
spokesperson, Phindi Chauke.
