Parole for Hani's Killer Sparks Street Fury

The Morning Star, London, 2 April 2016

Hundreds of protesters from South Africa's national liberation alliance
marched through the capital Pretoria yesterday venting their anger at the
parole of far-right assassin Janusz Walus.

The march was organised by the South African Communist Party (SACP), African
National Congress (ANC), union federation COSATU and civil society alliance
partner SANCO.

Mr Walus was due to be released yesterday after 23 years behind bars for the
assassination of SACP general secretary Chris Hani in 1993.

High Court Judge Nicoline Janse Van Nieuwenhuizen granted parole to the
Polish-born killer on March 10.

The alliance holds that since neither he nor accomplice Clive Derby-Lewis
have said who ordered the hit, neither should have been freed.

Mr Hani's widow Limpho Hani was on the march and said she "cannot forgive
without knowing the truth."
