To say "if Chris Hani was alive today he would agree with me to shout down so-and-so" is ignorant, because instead of resting on any knowledge of Cde Chris, it depends for its effect on cultivating an absence of such knowledge. Instead of commemorating Cde Chris, this kind of pomposity reduces him to the status of a political teddy-bear, into which any imaginary emotions or responses can be projected. It turns his righteous fame into a dumb, meaningless instrument. It is an abuse of his memory and an insult to his family and to all who hold him dear. Don't take his name "in vain"! Chris Hani's memory does not belong exclusively to anyone, but it does not belong to at all to those who use it "in vain", as the Bible puts it, that is to say without any effort to know of what they speak. Chris Hani's memory belongs to those who study his legacy for knowledge and understanding of his life and of the history which was what gave his life enduring meaning.
