In the run up to May Day celebrations Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, a
member of the PCC Political Bureau and secretary general of the Cuban
Workers’ Federation (CTC), noted that there are many reasons to celebrate
the occasion with enthusiasm and energy.

The Trade Union leader noted that actions will continue to take place around
the country toward fulfilling the Party’s principal missions such as the
development of the national economy, struggle for peace, unity and the
ideological resolve of the Cuban people.

Staff in workplaces across the country are currently preparing for the
festivities with enthusiasm. Meanwhile, non-state workers from all provinces
have confirmed their participation in the acts, marches and parades in
celebration of International Workers’ Day. Luis Castanedo Smith CTC
secretary general for Havana reported that thus far over 83,000 private
sector workers from across 100 areas have confirmed their attendance, May 1.
