Media Alert 04 May 2016 ANNOUNCEMENT OF JOINT ACTION PLAN TO TACKLE DESTRUCTION OF SCHOOLS IN VHUWANI AND VHEMBE Various stakeholders in the basic education sector as coordinated by the National Education Collaboration Trust (NECT) have noted with grave concern, the wanton destruction and burning of schools, property and learning centres in the Vhuwani and Vhembe districts in Limpopo Province during the recent community protests. Whilst the right to peaceful protest is enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic and should be protected at all times, this right should not be exercised in a manner that is detrimental of the right to education, which is an apex priority in our country. In light of these developments the following parties; NECT, SADTU, COSAS, National Association of School Governing Bodies (NASB), would like to invite you to a joint media conference to communicate to the country a multiparty plan of action to tackle this unacceptable situation. .
