News24white.png Education dept postpones jobs-for-cash report again Kaveel Singh, News24, Johannesburg, 6 May 2016 The Department of Basic Education on Friday postponed releasing a report on the jobs-for-cash scandal once again, saying it had agreed to consider the input of unions on the debacle. The department was meant to release a report from the Ministerial Task Team (MTT) investigation, but instead said it had resolved to engage with a number of unions and stakeholders, thus delaying the report for another two weeks. This is the second time the release of the report has been postponed. Unions implicated, particularly the South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) in KwaZulu-Natal, insisted that the MTT consider the input of unions as the report had not given them a right of reply. Motshekga met with the National Teachers Union (NATU), the National Professional Teachers Association (NAPTOSA), SADTU, the Suid-Afrikaanse Onderwys Unie (SAOU) and the Professional Educators Union (PEU). She also engaged with all School Governing Body Associations, the department said. "Emanating from these consultation meetings with the Minister, stakeholders have requested more time to refine their inputs and responses to the report. The Ministerial Task Team, with the support of the Minister, agreed to give stakeholders the opportunity as requested and therefore the release of the report will be postponed for two weeks to allow for these processes to be concluded. "Stakeholders responses and inputs will be considered by the MTT and before the final report is published." The department added that the consultations with stakeholders this week had highlighted "the importance to ensure that all processes are fair, just and followed to the letter".
