Prensa Latina.png South Africa and Venezuela Ready to Relaunch South Agenda Deisy Francis Mexidor, Prensa Latina (Cuba), in Johannesburg, 8 May 2016 Executive Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Aristobulo Isturiz, arrived today in South Africa on a work visit to relaunch the Agenda of the South, initiative of the late leader Hugo Chavez. Isturiz, who will stay until next Tuesday in the African nation, arrived at the International Airport Oliver Tambo of Johannesburg, coming from Dakar, Senegal, where he made a brief stop. He was received at the air terminal by deputy minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Llewellyn Landers and other officials of the Foreign Ministry, as well as by Mairin Moreno, Venezuelan ambassador in South Africa. Aristobulo in SA.jpg Isturiz’s visit has also the purpose of the President Nicolas Maduro to draw near to the member countries of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) and includes meetings at the highest level, confirmed a diplomatic source to Prensa Latina. On Monday, the Venezuelan vice president will hold a meeting at the African National Congress (ANC) headquarters in Luthuli House, in Johannesburg, with the leadership of the party in power and will make a courtesy visit to President Jacob Zuma. He will also talk with his peer, Cyril Ramaphosa, where he expects to discuss economic alliances, mainly in the mining, pharmaceutical and tourism sectors. Isturiz will know about the South African experience with the Commission for Truth and Reconciliation, established during the Nelson Mandela presidency. On this point the aim is to apply in Venezuela that experience with a panel created to evaluate the violent acts of February, 2014 with protests promoted by the opposition. The same Monday, the visitor will attend a meeting with the central committee of the South African Communist Party (SACP) and later will attend a mass rally with members of the solidarity movement with Venezuela. Finally there is scheduled a meeting with representatives of South African enterprises interested in investing in the South American country. The delegation led by Isturiz is also formed by deputy ministers of Mining, Richard Lozada and for Africa, Reinaldo Bolivar; deputy Nora Delgado and Desiree Sevelina Cabrera, of the Committee of Victims of the Garimbas. Venezuela and South Africa have strong political links and established diplomatic relations since 1994.
