New Age2.png SACP in FS backs Mlamleli as mayor The New Age, Johannesburg, 21 June 2016 The SACP's Free State leadership yesterday threw their weight behind Olly Mlamleli as executive mayor of the Mangaung metro. Following the conclusion of the ANC's special national executive commitee (NEC) meeting this past weekend, Mlamleli was the party's nomination for the mayoral position. Provincial secretary Charles Stofile told the SABC that while the SACP preferred continuity of leadership for the Mangaung metro, they support Mlamleli's candidacy for the sake of unity in the alliance. Stofile said: "It's something that we can support and we believe it should not be about using state resources against unintended programmes." Ollie Mlamleli.jpg The SACP in the Free State also said that it was firmly behind the ANC in its local government elections campaign. The party said in a statement following the conclusion of its 7th provincial congress this past weekend that "We commit ourselves to campaign for an overwhelming victory of the ANC in the local government elections. "To this end, all the SACP districts and branches will henceforth implement the already developed elections campaign programmes aimed at complementing the ANC elections campaign. "The elections campaign presents an opportunity for maximum unity within the alliance and the peoples' camp. As we campaign for an overwhelming victory of the ANC in the local government elections, we should take seriously the concerns raised by our communities." Outlining its election campaign, the SACP said that it would focus on household indebtedness and the transformation of the financial sector, halting of evictions, deepening participatory governance, food security, building of cooperatives and sustainable livelihoods for the people, ending outsourcing and contracting out of work and job creation with a bias for the youth employment programme. Regarding recent criticism of the SACP's general secretary Blade Nzimande and its national leadership, the congress "reaffirmed its full confidence in the leadership of the general secretary and will not hesitate to embark on a campaign to defend our leaders". Against the background of heightened tensions between the SACP and the ANC, the party said that "The elections campaign presents an opportunity for maximum unity within the alliance and the peoples' camp. "As we campaign for an overwhelming victory of the ANC in the local government elections, we should take seriously the concerns raised by our communities." The congress also resolved to mount various campaigns to fight unemployment, corruption and state capture. <mailto:[email protected]> [email protected] From: <http://tnaepaper.co.za/DRIVE/main%20edition/21062016/epaperpdf/4.pdf> http://tnaepaper.co.za/DRIVE/main%20edition/21062016/epaperpdf/4.pdf -- -- You are subscribed.
