The SA Communist Party and other African National Congress alliance partners
postponed their briefing on Monday after violence erupted in Pretoria.

Those behind violence and terrorising people in Pretoria are thugs who
should be arrested, the SA Communist Party (SACP) Tshwane region has said.

"The culprits do not respect the ANC and its leadership. They are captured
by individuals within the organisation," SACP secretary Apson Makaung said
on Monday.

Makaung made these comments after the SACP and other ANC alliance partners
in the Tshwane region, including the SA National Civic Organisation and
Confederation of South African Trade Union, postponed the briefing to
express their stance on the new mayoral candidate following reports of
unrest in the area.

The briefing was then rescheduled for Tuesday at Schoreburg Building in the
city centre, but has since been cancelled.

Makaung had said it was important to hold the briefing once they had updated
information about Monday's violence in order to give residents full
information.

It was reported that a group believed to be disgruntled ANC members
overturned a metro police vehicle in Arcadia after the ANC named former
Public Works Minister Thoko Didiza its Tshwane mayoral candidate.

Other incidents of violence were also reported in Mamelodi and
Atteridgeville.

It was also reported that an ANC member died after being shot during a clash
among ANC members over who should be the mayoral candidate between incumbent
Tshwane mayor and ANC regional chairperson Kgosientso Ramokgopa and his
deputy, Mapiti Matsena, at the Tshwane Events Centre in Pretoria West on
Sunday.

Makaung said it was up to the police to investigate the cause of the
violence and make arrests.
